our apiary locations
Free Community Apiaries Across Norfolk & Suffolk
Our community apiaries are free, welcoming places where anyone can come and learn about beekeeping, bees, pollinators and nature.
You do not need any experience, equipment or your own hive. We provide the protective clothing and guidance needed, and you can get involved at your own pace. Some people come to be hands-on with the bees, while others prefer to watch, ask questions and build confidence slowly.
Each location has regular inspection sessions where volunteers can learn practical beekeeping, spend time outdoors, meet others and help care for a shared community apiary.
What to expect at a session
A typical session may include checking the hives, learning how to spot the queen, looking for eggs and brood, checking food stores, adding or removing equipment, learning about pollinators, or helping with simple site tasks.
Every week is different because beekeeping follows the seasons. You will always be supported by someone experienced, and no one is expected to do anything they are not comfortable with.
Our sessions are free for anyone to attend and are suitable for complete beginners.
Before you come along
Please wear sensible outdoor clothing and closed-toe shoes. In warm weather, bring water, as bee suits can get hot.
Sessions are weather dependent. We can only open hives safely in suitable conditions, so sessions may be cancelled or changed in heavy rain, high winds, storms or unsuitable temperatures.
If you have a known bee sting allergy, please contact us before attending.
